When death occurs at home

When death occurs in hospital
Unless you are present when your loved one passes, the next of kin and relatives will be notified by the nursing staff as soon as possible. You can then make contact with us and we will liaise with the Hospital Administrative staff to deal with the formalities. This will include collection the Medical Certificate which outlines the Cause of Death (issued by a Doctor ) and the personal possessions of your loved one.
Unexpected death
In the event that the death is sudden or unexpected, the police will need to attend, they will coordinate the removal of the remains, on behalf of the procurator fiscal, to the mortuary. The procurator fiscal will be informed and the requirement for a pathologist to undertake a post mortem assessment will need to be carried out according to Ministry of Justice guidelines.
Repatriation
The loss of a loved one is a distressing enough, however when it happens outwith the Highlands or Scotland it is made even more distressing due to different rules, regulations and laws to adhere to. Alasdair Rhind Funeral Directors offer a repatriation service that takes away the stress and the unknown factors that other authorities or countries put on you at this time.
We deal directly with Coroners, Consulates and Embassy Officials or any other professional body dealing with a death outside The Highlands or the UK. We will liaise with all the appropriate authorities in arranging the repatriation of your loved one and also arrange all necessary documentation that is needed for the family and arrangements needed for the funeral to go ahead once back home.
